Mark Butler
Educational Performance Clinician <> Choral Music Consultant <> Music Ministry
Mark Butler, composer, conductor, pianist, and music educator. He received a Masters degree in Music Education with concentration in Choral Conducting from Florida State University and an undergraduate degree in Music Education from Florida A&M University.
As a published composer for Hinshaw Music, his compositions have quickly grown to popular fame among the choral music world. They are being performed at Festivals and Choral Events throughout the Nation. Two of his compositions were recently performed at the American Choral Directors Association Conventions Butler’s arrangement of Glory Hallelujah to the Newborn King was performed on PBS television by the Spelman and Morehouse College Glee Clubs and was also recorded by the Florida State University Concert Choir which was directed by Choral Conductor, Andre Thomas. Butler is also featured as one the upcoming composers, in the book “Way Over in Beulah Lan” (an explore and guide to Understanding & Performing the Negro Spiritual) Dr. Andre’ Thomas, author.
He is the former director and founder of The Dougherty High Performing Arts Chorale (Albany, GA.). Within thirteen years he led this group of inner city youth students to win sixteen 1st place major National Choral Competitions throughout the United States (New York, Chicago, Alabama, Florida and Georgia) and performances at several GMEA conventions.
He has been selected as Who’s Who among American Teachers and was chosen by his peers as Teacher of the year at Dougherty Comprehensive High School. In 2002, Butler received a composer’s award at the 12th Annual Southeastern African American College and University Choral Symposium Festival in Nassau, Bahamas.
Butler presently works as Director of Choral
Studies / Activities and Professor of Music at Florida A&M University. He is
also the musical director and founder of the group "TRANSFORMED"; an Ensemble of
Vocal Arts Ministry. He continues to conduct workshops and clinics for
Schools, Churches, and musical events.
